What aspects should be considered in the estimate of nursing Essay
What aspects should be considered in the estimate of nursing - Essay Example Set up two nursing diagnoses: a current and a risk. The nursing diagnoses for the patient are improper eating habits and inheritance of genes from their parentsSet for each nursing diagnosis an expected outcome (goal). An expected outcome resulting from poor eating habits may result to the patient gaining unnecessary weight. In order to avoid this, the patient should realize the need to have proper balanced diet at all times. It will also increase their level of awareness of foods and activities that contribute to their excessive intake.Establish five Educational activities to lose weight Setting the right priorities and goals is an important activity to focus on when losing weight. Physical and dietary activity changes lead to achieving long-term weight change. In order to be successful, the patient should select few manageable goals at a time. Self-monitoring is the other educational activity used to check a patientââ¬â¢s behavior in terms of calorie intake, vegetable servings and physical activities undertaken (Dudek & Dudek, 2013). Monitoring oneââ¬â¢s behavior helps one move closer towards a desired direction and produce records for review by a healthcare provider.Weight affects the self esteem of an individual. Excessive weight evokes negative reactions from the society. Educating patients of the need to watch their weight may guarantee a reduction in weight loss. A patient ought to know that the amount of weight needed to improve their health is much less than the weight they wish to lose.

The future and technology Essay Example for Free
The future and technology Essay ?Most people have debates on how the present is better than the future or that the future will be better than the present. No one will know which one is better until we figure out what the ââ¬Å"futureâ⬠is exactly. People imagine that the future is all about flying cars and robots, which seems to blow our minds in a positive way. The question is, does the future hold up to what it seems to be? Our world today is a better place for us with many reasons. As our world advance in technology, we as people decrease in communication skills. Throughout the years more and more technology is coming out, like cell phones and game systems. As more technology comes out, people tend to get attached to that and forget about important things. Cell phones are becoming so advanced to where we donââ¬â¢t have to see the other person we are talking to. We can just message them in many different ways such as texting, video chat, email, social networks, or by a simple phone call. This is decreasing our social skills, which isnââ¬â¢t good for many reasons like job interviews, college classes and other reasons. With all this technology coming out people lose their integrity. People expect things to be at their fingertips when they need something. If you need to research a topic, you can have it in a matter of seconds with the use of your phone. Libraries are rarely visited, to look things up in books since everyone has mini computers in the palm of their hands. People no longer have to work hard and put their blood and sweat into projects, everything is a few clicks away. Humans cannot live without technology, we have adapted to it being so convenient for our use to where weââ¬â¢ve become attached to it. As it advances, everyone becomes lazier. Soon there will be inventions we wouldââ¬â¢ve never guessed could be possible. Kids donââ¬â¢t get the exercise they need because they have all these new inventions like cell phones, game systems, and television they can do instead. Since technology is very common, kids are getting cell phones at younger ages. This causes them to not have a full childhood and to be influenced by older teens easier. They also have game systems and television that they can play and watch all day instead of going outside and being a kid, which leads to obesity and laziness. As technology advances, so does the price. The newer items everyone wants become more expensive since theyââ¬â¢re new. In return people feel the need to purchase these items that in reality they canââ¬â¢t afford. More inventions, leads to more money spent, which leads to poverty for many families. Especially since our world today is already struggling with economy and money issues. It is only going to get worse. Some technology can be a good thing, it will always be there to help us, make things easier, and do things for us. Inventions make peopleââ¬â¢s jobs easier. That isnââ¬â¢t always a positive thing though. There are pros and cons to it, but we as humans abuse the use of technology. It can help us to a certain extent. Doctors use technology for researching diseases and their cures. Scientists run experiments to find things out about space or our history. Little technology can ruin us humans, the more it advances, the more we rely on it for everything, which causes humans to forget the ways of life that have led us to where we are at today.

Causes of Variation in Construction Projects
Causes of Variation in Construction Projects Literature reviews that of Variations and Variation Orders requires a comprehensive understanding of the root causes of Variations (Hester et al., 1991).Variations some of which are financial, design aesthetics, changes in drawings, weather, geological and geotechnical reasons. From the literature review, there were 53 causes of Variations identified and these Variations are mainly caused by the Employer, Consultants and Contractors. As shown in Figure 1, these causes of Variations were grouped under four categories: Employer related Variations, Consultants related Variations, Contractor related Variations and other Variations. These Causes of Variations have been identified by many researchers (CII, 1990a; Thomas and Napolitan, 1994; Clough and Sears, 1994; Fisk, 1997; Ibbs et al., 1998; OBrien, 1998; Mokhtar et al., 2000; Gray and Hughes, 2001; Arain et al., 2004). The causes of Variations can be categorized according to the originators (CII, 1990a; Thomas and Napolitan, 1994). The 53 causes identified from the literature review are also discussed below. A. Employer Related Changes This section discusses the causes of variations that were initiated by the Employer. In some cases, the Employer directly initiates Variations or the Variations are required because the Employer fails to fulfil certain requirements for carrying out the project. Change of plans or scope by Employer: Change of plan or scope of project is one of the most significant causes of Variations in construction projects (CII, 1990b) and is usually the result of insufficient planning at the project planning stage, or also i can because of lack of involvement of the Employer in the design phase (Arain et al., 2004). This cause the Variations affects the project severely during the later phases. Change of schedule by Employer: A change of schedule or master programme during the project construction phase may result in major resource reallocation (Fisk, 1997; OBrien, 1998). This is because time has an equivalent money value. A change in schedule means that the Contractor will either provide additional resources, or keep some resources idle in the construction site. In both cases additional cost is incurred. Employers financial problems: The Employer of the project may run into difficult financial situations that force him to make changes in an attempt to reduce cost of the project. Employers financial problems affect project progress and quality (Clough and Sears, 1994; OBrien, 1998). Proper financial planning and review of project cash flow would be effective in avoid this problem to from happening. Inadequate project objectives: Inadequate project objectives are one of the causes of Variations in construction projects (Ibbs and Allen, 1995). Due to inadequate project objectives, the designers would not be able to develop a comprehensive design which leads to many of Variations during the project construction phase. Replacement of materials or procedures: Replacement of materials or procedures may cause major Variations during the construction phase. The substitution of procedures includes Variations in application methods (Chappell and Willis, 1996). Therefore, an adjustment to the original contract value is required if there is a change in procedures. Impediment in prompt decision making process: Prompt decision making is an important factor for project success (Sanvido et al., 1992; Gray and Hughes, 2001). A delay in decision making may obstruct the progress of subsequent construction activities and that may eventually delay the entire project progress. Obstinate nature of Employer: A building project is the result of the combined efforts of the professionals. They have to work at the various interfaces of a project (Wang, 2000; Arain et al., 2004). If the Employer is obstinate, he may not accommodate other creative and beneficial ideas. Eventually, this may cause major Variations in the later stages and affect the project negatively. Change in specifications by owner: Changes in specifications are frequent in construction projects with inadequate project objectives (OBrien, 1998). In a multi-player environment like any construction project, change in specifications by the Employer during the construction phase may require major Variations and adjustments in project planning and procurement activities. B. Consultant Related Variations This section discusses the causes of Variations that were initiated by the consultant. In some cases, the consultant directly initiates Variations or the Variations are required because the consultant fails to fulfil certain requirements for carrying out the project. Change in design by Consultants: Change in design for improvement by the Consultant is a norm in contemporary professional practice (Arain et al., 2004). The changes in design are frequent in projects where construction starts before the design is finalized (Fisk, 1997). Design changes can affect a project adversely depending on the timing of the occurrence of the changes. Errors and omissions in design: Errors and omissions in design are an important cause of project to delays (Arain et al., 2004). Design errors and omissions may lead to loss of productivity and delay in project schedule (Assaf et al., 1995). Hence, errors and omissions in design can affect a project adversely depending on the timing of the occurrence of the errors. Conflicts between contract documents: Conflict between contract documents can result in misinterpretation of the actual requirement of a project (CII, 1986a). To convey complete project scope for participants, the contract documents must be clear and straight to the point. Insufficient details in contract documents may adversely affect the project, leading to delay in project completion. Inadequate scope of work for contractor: In a multi-player environment like construction, the scope of work for all the players must be clear and without uncertainty for successful project completion (Fisk, 1997; Arain et al., 2004). Inadequate scope of work for the contractor can cause major Variations that may negatively affect the project, and leads to changes in construction planning. Technology change: Technology change is a potential cause of Variations in a project. Project planning should be flexible for accommodating new beneficial Variations (CII, 1994b). This is because the new technology can be beneficial in the project life cycle, for instance, reducing maintenance cost of the project. Or new methods of constructions that reduce construction cost. Value engineering: Value engineering should ideally be carried out during the design phase (DellIsola, 1982). During the construction phase, value engineering can be a costly exercise, as Variation in any design element would initiate and leads to Variations to other relevant design components (Mokhtar et al., 2000). Lack of coordination: A lack of coordination between parties may cause major variations that could eventually impact the project adversely (Arain et al., 2004). Unfavourable Variations, which affect the projects negatively, can usually be managed at an early stage by paying extra focus in coordination. Design complexity: Complex designs require unique skills and construction methods (Arain et al., 2004). Complexity affects the flow of construction activities, whereas simple and linear construction works are relatively easy to handle (Fisk, 1997). Hence, complexity may cause major Variations in construction projects. Inadequate working drawing details: To convey a complete concept of the project design, the working drawings must be clear and concise (Geok, 2002). Insufficient working drawing details can result in misinterpretation of the actual requirement of a project (Arain et al., 2004). Thorough reviewing of design details would assist in minimizing Variations. Inadequate shop drawing details: Shop drawings are usually developed for construction work details for site professionals (Cox and Hamilton, 1995). As mentioned earlier with regard to working drawing details, likewise, inadequacy of shop drawing details can be a potential cause of Variations in the construction projects. Consultants lack of judgment and experience: Professional experience and judgment is an important factor for a successful completion of a building project (Clough and Sears, 1994; OBrien, 1998). The lack of professional experience increases the risk of errors in design as well as during construction. Eventually, this may affect the project quality and delay the project completion. Lack of consultants knowledge of available materials and equipment: Knowledge of available materials and equipment is an important factor for developing a comprehensive design (Geok, 2002). In the construction industry where material standardization is not common, the consultants lack of knowledge of available materials and equipment can cause numerous major Variations during various project phases. Honest wrong beliefs of consultant: Honest wrong beliefs may cause construction professionals to contribute poor value add in projects (Arain, 2002; Arain et al., 2004). Consultants, without having firsthand knowledge, may make decisions based on their wrong beliefs which would adversely affect the pace of the project. Consultants lack of required data: A lack of data can result in misinterpretation of the actual requirements of a project (Assaf et al., 1995; Arain, 2002). When there is insufficient data, consultants are prone to develop designs based on their own perceptions, which may not be what the Employer wants. Eventually, this may cause major Variations and affect the project negatively. Obstinate nature of consultant: In a multi-player environment like construction, the professionals have to work as team at the various interfaces of a project (Wang, 2000; Arain et al., 2004). If the consultant is obstinate, he may not accommodate other creative and beneficial ideas. Eventually, this may cause major Variations in the later stages and affect the project Negatively. Ambiguous design details: A clearer design tends to be comprehended more readily (OBrien, 1998). Ambiguity or Doubtfulness or uncertainty in design is a potential cause of Variations in a project. This is because ambiguity in design can be misinterpreted by project participants, leading to rework and delay in the project completion. Eventually, this may affect the project progress negatively. Design discrepancies (inadequate design): Inadequate design can be a frequent cause of Variations in construction projects (CII, 1990a; Fisk, 1997). Design discrepancies affect the project functionality and quality. Eventually, this can affect a project adversely depending on the timing of the occurrence of the Variations. Noncompliance of design with government regulations: Noncompliance of design with government regulations or policies would cost the project difficult to execute (Clough and Sears, 1994). Noncompliance with government regulations may affect the project safety and progress negatively, leading to serious accidents and delays in the project completion. Noncompliance of design with owners requirements: A comprehensive design is one that accommodates the owners requirements (Cox and Hamilton, 1995). A noncompliance design with the owners requirements is considered an inadequate design (Fisk, 1997). Eventually, this may cause Variations for accommodating the Employers requirements. This may affect the project adversely during the construction phase. Change in specifications by consultant: Changes in specifications are frequent in construction projects with inadequate project objectives (OBrien, 1998). As mentioned earlier with respect to changes in specifications by the Employer, this is also a potential cause of Variations in a project, leading to reworks and delays in the project completion. C. Contractor Related Variations This section discusses the causes of Variations that were related to the Contractor. In some cases, the contractor may suggest Variations to the project, or the Variations may be required because the contractor fails to fulfil certain requirements for carrying out the project. Lack of Contractors involvement in design: Involvement of the Contractor in the design may assist in developing better designs by accommodating his creative and practical ideas (Arain et al., 2004). Lack of Contractors involvement in design may eventually cause Variations. Practical ideas which are not accommodated during the design phase will eventually affect the project negatively. Unavailability of equipment: Unavailability of equipment is a procurement problem that can affect the project completion (OBrien, 1998). Occasionally, the lack of equipment may cause major design Variations or adjustments to project scheduling to accommodate the replacement. Unavailability of skills (shortage of skilled manpower): Skilled manpower is one of the major resources required for complex technological projects (Arain et al., 2004). Shortage of skilled manpower is more likely to occur in complex technological projects. This lack can be a cause for Variations that may delay the projects completion date. Contractors financial difficulties: Construction is a labour intensive industry. Whether the Contractor has been paid or not, the wages of the worker must still be paid (Thomas and Napolitan, 1994). Contractors financial difficulties may cause major Variations during a project, affecting its quality and progress and in some cases even the safety of the site is affected if there is an argument. Contractors desired profitability: Contractors desired profitability can be a potential cause of Variations in construction projects. This is because Variations are considered a common source of additional works for the contractor (OBrien, 1998). The Contractor may eventually strive to convince the project Employer to allow certain Variations, leading to additional financial benefits for him. Differing site conditions: Differing site condition can be an important cause of delays in large building projects (Assaf et al., 1995). The contractor may face different soil conditions than those indicated in the tender documents. Eventually this may affect his cost estimates and schedule negatively. Defective workmanship: Defective workmanship may lead to demolition and rework in construction projects (Fisk, 1997; OBrien, 1998). Defective workmanship results in low quality in construction projects (Arain et al., 2004). Even the Contractor bares the cost of the defective work, but this also may affect the project negatively, leading to rework and delay in the project completion. Unfamiliarity with local conditions: Familiarity with local conditions is an important factor for the successful completion of a construction project (Clough and Sears, 1994). If the Contractor is not aware of local conditions, it would be extremely difficult for him to carry out the project. Eventually, project delays may occur that end up with vital Variations in the entire design entity. Lack of a specialized construction manager: The construction manager carries out the construction phase in an organized way to eliminate the risks of delays and other problems. Lack of a specialized construction manager may lead to defective workmanship and delay in the construction project. Fast track construction: Fast track construction requires an organized system to concurrently carry out interdependent project activities (Fisk, 1997). When the public and private sectors have large funds and want to complete projects in a very short time, complete construction drawings and specifications may not be available when the contractor starts work (Arain et al., 2004).Eventually, this procurement mode may cause major Variations. Poor procurement process: Procurement delays have various negative effects on other processes in the construction cycle (Fisk, 1997). Occasionally, the procurement delay may cause an entire change or replacement for originally specified materials or equipment for the project (Arain et al., 2004). This may therefore cause a need for project activities to be reworked. Lack of communication: Detrimental Variations, which affect the projects adversely, can usually be managed at an early stage with strong and incessant communication. A lack of coordination and communication between parties may cause major Variations that could eventually impact the project negatively (Arain et al., 2004). Contractors lack of judgment and experience: The consultants lack of professional experience increases the risk of errors during construction (OBrien, 1998). This lack may cause major construction Variations in a project, when both Contractor and consultant could not identify or foresee the problems in the planning stage due to both parties are lacking of experience. Eventually, this may affect the project quality and delay the project completion. Long lead procurement: Procurement delays have various adverse affects on other processes in the construction cycle (Fisk, 1997). Occasionally, the procurement delay may cause an entire change or replacement for originally specified materials or equipment for the project. Delay in long lead procurement is a common cause of delays in building projects (Assaf et al., 1995). Honest wrong beliefs of contractor: As mentioned earlier with respect to honest wrong beliefs of the consultant, honest wrong beliefs of the contractor can also be a potential cause of Variations in construction projects. Contractors, without having firsthand knowledge, may make decisions based on their wrong beliefs which would adversely affect the quality and pace of the project. Complex design and technology: Complex design and technology require detailed interpretations by the designer to make it comprehensible for the Contractor (Arain, 2002). A complex design may be experienced for the first time by the Contractor. Eventually, the complexity may affect the flow of construction activities, leading to delays in the project completion. Lack of strategic planning: Proper strategic planning is an important factor for successful completion of a building project (Clough and Sears, 1994; CII, 1994a). The lack of strategic planning is a common cause of Variations in projects where construction starts before the design is finalized, for instance, in concurrent design and construction contracts (OBrien, 1998). Contractors lack of required data: A lack of required data may affect the contractors strategic planning for successful project completion, leading to frequent disruptions during the construction process. This is because a lack of data can result in misinterpretation of the actual requirements of a project (Assaf et al., 1995; Arain et al., 2004). Contractors obstinate nature: As mentioned earlier with regard to the obstinate nature of consultant, likewise, this can be a potential cause of Variations in construction projects. If the Contractor is obstinate, he may not accommodate creative and beneficial ideas suggested by others. Eventually, this may cause major Variations in the later stages and affect the project negatively. D. Other Variations This section discusses the causes of Variations that were not directly related to the project team. Weather conditions: Adverse weather conditions can affect outside activities in construction projects (Fisk, 1997; OBrien, 1998). When weather conditions vary such as the various monsoon seasons in Malaysia, the contractor needs to adjust the construction schedule accordingly. Occasionally, this may affect the project progress negatively, leading to delays in construction. Safety considerations: Safety is an important factor for the successful completion of a building project (Clough and Sears, 1994). Noncompliance with safety requirements may cause major Variations in design. Lack of safety considerations may affect the project progress negatively, leading to serious accidents and delays in the project completion. Change in government regulations: Local authorities may have specific codes and regulations that need to be accommodated in the design (Arain et al., 2004). Change in government regulations during the project construction phase may cause major Variations in design and construction. This can affect a project negatively depending on the timing of the occurrence of the changes. Change in economic conditions: Economic conditions are one of the influential factors that may affect a construction project (Fisk, 1997). The economic situation of a country can affect the whole construction industry and its participants. Eventually, this may affect the project negatively, depending on the timing of the occurrence of the Variations. Socio-cultural factors: Professionals with different socio-cultural backgrounds may encounter problems due to different perceptions, and this may affect the working environment of the construction project (Arain et al., 2004). Lack of coordination is common between professionals with different socio-cultural backgrounds (OBrien, 1998). Eventually, project delays may occur that end up with vital changes in the entire project team. Unforeseen problems: Unforeseen conditions are usually faced by professionals in the construction industry (Clough and Sears, 1994; OBrien, 1998). If these conditions are not solved as soon as possible, they may cause major Variations in the construction projects. Eventually, this may affect the project negatively, leading to reworks and delays in the project completion.

Martin Eden :: essays papers
Martin Eden Jack London, prestigious author of Martin Eden writes his opinions into his work. Aspects of different societies are prevalent throughout his work and the class struggle between different classes of characters is apparent in his writing. Although not an autobiography much of his writing can appear to include his personal views on life. Martin Eden, the protagonist created by London begins as a petty seaman works his his way to the upper class of society. Through self-determination and self-education he is able to become a member of the bourgeois. Writers with styles similar to London in that they all write in the same style in that shows the struggle of the poor and their climb to the upper class only to see that it reveals a faux ideal. Alice Hoffman author of Here On Earth appears to hold many of the same beliefs as Martin which are seen throughout her novel. Martin Eden was forced to make his own living. Eden was never given anything and had to work to gain everything he wanted. Everyday struggles included finding the simple necessities of food and shelter. As a poor sailor, Eden looked around and saw the ideals of the bourgeois. Through the eyes of Eden the Bourgeois were the educated, wealthy, and were what Martin desired to become. He dreams of becoming educated and belonging to the upper class; ultimately he finds one small connection that opens up a new world to the once struggling seaman. Although later disproved, his first impressions of this class were seen from an outsider^s view as perfect. ^Here was intellectual life, he thought, and here was beauty, warm and wonderful as he had never dreamed it could be.^ (p. 40) Martin comes into contact with a family that introduces him to this new world. The Morse family was all Martin dreamed of, he viewed them, as them part of a perfect society and Ruth was the focal point of it.! Ruth was heavenly like a flower; her culture and sophistication stimulated him. Introduction to this new class surprised Martin. The library, a new idea to him, becomes his new haven. Although he lacked both the time and money necessary for a traditional education between sailing he began his way to self-education. In the beginning Martin was separated from Ruth because of their class difference, but as this yearning for education developed he and Ruth become involved. ^He wasn^t of their tribe, and he couldn^t talk their lingo was the way he put it to himself. He couldn^t fake being their kind.^ (p. 51) Although he wasn^t born any with any of these ^privileges^ he made it his business

Motivations for immigration to American colonies Essay
The first successful colony in America was in Jamestown, Virginia, established 1607. When it was first founded, the colony contained only several hundred people. During the two hundred years that followed the population increased greatly, due in part to massive immigration from the Old World. By 1790 the colony housed a little under four million people. The high rate of immigration stemmed from a number of different motivators, including the peoplesââ¬â¢ hope for a better lifestyle than the one they experienced in the Old World, religious zeal, cheaper land and higher wages for manual laborers, and overpopulation in England. Farmers and manual laborers were attracted to America by the prospect of higher wages and lower costs of living. ââ¬Å"Most of these people were of the ââ¬Ëindustriousââ¬â¢ sortââ¬âcraftsmen, yeomen farmers, and small merchantsâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Document A). Since the New World sought these types of laborers to further the economy and lacked a sufficient number of them, the demand increased, and with it the wages. The cost of living was also lower because the New World was virtually unpopulated and there was a low demand for residence as compared with England; subsequently, the costs were lower. According to William Penn, ââ¬Å"their labor will be worth more than it is in England and their living will be cheaper.â⬠(Document 1). Religious types, especially the Puritans, were drawn to America by the possibility of converting natives and spreading the message and lifestyle that they upheld to others through example. They hoped for ââ¬Å"new soulsâ⬠to be ââ¬Å"won for God.â⬠(David Cressy article). By establishing what they considered to be an ideal and pious community, these colonizers wanted to build a new home for Christianity, extended from its confines of the Old World. One man who brought people like this to America through his words was John Winthrop, who said that colonization would carry the benefit of ââ¬Å"service to the Lord.â⬠(Document 3). Winthrop was a prominent leader of the English Puritans in their voyage to the Massachusetts Bay to build such a colony. Another motivation for immigration was the hope of a better lifestyle by the settlers. ââ¬Å"Many left depressedâ⬠¦regions in search of a new start.â⬠(Document A). Some people felt oppressed by the English government andà wanted freedom from it. Also, many people who were denied the privilege of land ownership in England believed that they could fulfill this wish in the New World. As mentioned before, land was cheaper in America due to a fairly low demand for it, which increased the probability of one being able to own it. Therefore, the possibility of land ownership and a new start was an attraction for the colonizers. Some of the people that emigrated, however, were not actually motivated to do so by the attractions of the New World. Instead, overpopulation in England and pressure from the government pushed them out of the country and into America. Since the pioneers of the colonies wanted them to flourish and needed inhabitants to achieve this goal, the government encouraged unemployed or idle Englishmen to settle there. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦Thousands of Englishmen were forced off the land and unwelcome itinerants became a common sightâ⬠¦constituting a problem.â⬠(Document 2). The solution to this problem was to ship the unwelcome men off to America, which is what the government did, and was a partial reason for the population boom. Different people were attracted to the New World for different reasons, such as the wish to own land, better oneââ¬â¢s lifestyle, or promote Christianity. These attractions paired with overpopulation in England were the reason that so many people emigrated to colonial America. The new area presented a whole fresh realm of possibilities that England did not offer, and as a result, the unemployed, unhappy and/or restless went there in search of satisfaction and something new. Various literature written by educated men of the period promoted emigration and helped spread the word of these prospects. These reasons are what account for the large number of that people moved to colonial America in the seventeenth century.

The Gifted
Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love. â⬠Mother Teresa A day of extending the service of love was once again showed by the grantees to the children of orgy. Barras, Stop. NIH. It was a day full of happiness that the grantees, though they didn't have expensive things to share, and fancy gifts to give, didn't fail the children experience the feeling of being loved through sharing with them the Joy and laughter that no amount of money could ever buy.It was a day of fun when the renters conducted several activities in cooperation with the Christ the King College- College of Teacher Education Graduating Class of 2013. The KC-CITE together with the grantees of Cassis Development Foundation had an outreach program exclusively for the students of Barras Elementary and Secondary Schools. The grantees were able to show their spirit of generosity not Just by sharing largesse to the learners of Bray. Barras but also by giving them knowledge and under standing of things that are still alien to them, giving them awareness of the scholarships offered at Christ the KingCollege, most specifically the Cassis Development Foundation, and of course sharing with them a barrel of laughs. Just looking into the eyes of those children, their eagerness and enthusiasm of pursuing their studies and the realization by themselves that cried how unfortunate they were not to do so because of financial instability made the hearts of the grantees movedâ⬠¦ And this was the highlight of their visit on that place. Subsequently, the only thing that emanated to the grantees was to open the gates for them by sharing with the learners the idea that both sides share the same sentiments specially before. The grantees disclosed with them their past stories before they became grantees, the grantees wanted the learners to understand that in every problem there will always be a solution, that there is always a chance for the unfortunate, and a hope to those who believe. The UDF grantees gave inspiration to the learners to not lose hope but fight instead to whatever circumstances they may be facing for life is sometimes cruel but it can yield the sweetest thing if one learns how to look into its positive side. The outreach program did not Just wake up the hearts and minds of the people in orgy.Barras but it also rough them enlightenment unto which path to go through and it was really an honor that the Cassis grantees were also a part of that realization in their lives. Through the grantees' initiative of uncovering their life stories for the sake of giving the students the encouragement and motivation to continue to the course of their lives through educating themselves, truly they presented their being of a teacher with Franciscan values with them. The grantees believe that they can make a difference through commencing with simple things, thus, according to Napoleon Hill, whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.
Receiving a Homeschool Highschool Diploma
Receiving a Homeschool Highschool Diploma One of the biggest concerns for homeschooling parents is high school. They worry about how their student will get a diploma so he or she can attend college, get a job, or join the military. No one wants homeschooling to impact their childââ¬â¢s academic future or career options negatively. The good news is that homeschooled students can successfully achieve their post-graduation goals with a parent-issued diploma. What Is a Diploma? A diploma is an official document awarded by a high school indicating that a student has completed the necessary requirements for graduation. In most cases, students must complete a predetermined number of credit hours in high school-level courses such as English, math, science, and social studies. Diplomas may be accredited or non-accredited. An accredited diploma is one that is issued by an institution that has been verified to meet a given set of criteria. Most public and private schools are accredited. That means that they have met the standards set by a governing body, which is usually the department of education in the state in which the school is located. Non-accredited diplomas are issued by institutions that have not met or chose not to adhere to the guidelines set by such a governing body. Individual homeschools, along with some public and private schools, are not accredited. However, with few exceptions, this fact does not negatively impact a homeschooled students post-graduation options. Homeschooled students are admitted to colleges and universities and can even earn scholarships with or without accredited diplomas, just like their traditionally-schooled peers. They can join the military and get a job. There are options for obtaining an accredited diploma for families who want their student to have that validation. One option is to use a distance learning or online school such as Alpha Omega Academy or Abeka Academy.à Why Is a Diploma Necessary? Diplomas are necessary for college admission, military acceptance, and usually employment. Homeschool diplomas are accepted at most colleges and universities. With few exceptions,à colleges require that students take an admissions test such as theà SAT or ACT. Those test scores, along with a transcript of a studentââ¬â¢s high school courses, will meet the entrance requirements for most schools. Check the website for the college or university your student is interested in attending. Many schools now have specific admissions informationà for homeschooled students on their sites orà admissions specialists who workà directly with homeschoolers. Homeschool diplomas are also accepted by the United States military.à Aà high school transcript validatingà the parent-issued diplomaà may be requested and should suffice for proving that the student met the requirements eligible for graduation. Graduation Requirements for a High School Diploma There are several options for obtaining a diploma for your homeschooled student.à Parent-Issued Diploma Most homeschool parents choose to issue their students a diploma themselves.à Most states donââ¬â¢t require that homeschool families follow specific graduation guidelines. To be sure, investigate your stateââ¬â¢sà homeschooling lawsà on a trustworthyà site such as Homeschool Legal Defense Associationà or your statewide homeschool support group. If the law doesnââ¬â¢t specifically address graduation requirements, there are none for your state. Some states, such as New York and Pennsylvania, have detailed graduation requirements. Other states, such asà California,à Tennessee, andà Louisiana, may stipulate graduation requirements based on the homeschooling option parents choose. For example, Tennessee homeschooling families who enroll in an umbrella school must meet that schoolââ¬â¢s graduation requirements to receive a diploma. If your state does not list graduation requirements for homeschooled students, you are free to establish your own. You want to consider your students interests, aptitudes, abilities, and career goals. One commonly-suggested method for determining requirements is to follow your stateââ¬â¢s public school requirements or to use them as a guideline for setting your own. Another option is to research the colleges or universities that your student is considering and follow their admissions guidelines. For either of these alternatives, it can be helpful to understand typicalà course requirements for high school students. However, it is also important to keep in mind that many colleges and universities are actively seeking homeschool graduates and often appreciate a non-traditional approach to school. Dr. Susan Berry, who researches and writes about educational topics like the fast-growing rate of homeschooling, told Alpha Omega Publications: ââ¬Å"The high achievement level of homeschoolers is readily recognized by recruiters from some of the best colleges in the nation. Schools such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard, Stanford, and Duke University all actively recruit homeschoolers.â⬠That means that patterning your homeschool after a traditional high school may not be necessary, even if your student plans to attend college. Use the admissions requirements for the school your child would like to attend as a guide. Determine whatà youà deem necessary for your student to know upon completion of his high school years. Use those two pieces of information to guide your studentââ¬â¢s four-year high school plan. Diplomas From Virtual or Umbrella Schools If your homeschooled student is enrolled in an umbrella school, a virtual academy, or an online school, that school will likely issue a diploma. In most cases, these schools are treated like a distance learning school. They will determine the courses and credit hours required for graduation. Parents using an umbrella school usually have some degree of freedom in meeting the course requirements. In most cases, parents can choose their own curriculum and even their own courses. For example, students may be required to earn three credits in science, but individual families can choose which science courses their student takes. A student taking online courses or working through a virtual academy will sign up for the courses that the school offers to meet the credit hour requirements. This means that their options may be limited to more traditional courses, general science, biology, and chemistry to earn three science credits, for example. Public or Private School Diplomas In most cases, a public school will not issue a diploma to a homeschooled student even if the homeschool worked under the oversight of the local school district. Students who schooled at home using an online public school option, such as K12, will receive a state-issued high school diploma.à Homeschooled students who worked closely with a private school may be issued a diploma by that school. What Should a Homeschool Diploma Include? Parents who choose to issue their own high school diploma may wish to use a homeschool diploma template. The diploma should include: The name of the high school (or wording that indicates that it is a high school diploma)The students nameWording to indicate that the student has met the graduation requirements for his schoolThe date the diploma was issued or the course of study was completedThe signature(s) of the homeschool teacher (usually one or both parents) Although parents can create and print their own diplomas, it is advisable to order a more official-looking document from a reputable source such asà Homeschool Legal Defense Associationà (HSLDA) orà Homeschool Diploma. A high-quality diploma can make a better impression on potential schools or employers. What Else Do Homeschool Graduates Need? Many homeschooling parents wonder if their student should take theà GEDà (General Education Development). A GED is not a diploma, but rather certificate indicating that a person has demonstrated a mastery of knowledge equivalent to what he would have learned in high school. Unfortunately, many colleges and employers do not view a GED the same as a high school diploma. They may assume that a person dropped out of high school or was unable to complete the course requirements for graduation. Says Rachel Tustin ofà Study.com, If two applicants set side by side, and one had a high school diploma and the other a GED, odds are colleges and employers would lean towards the one with a high school diploma. The reason is simple: students withà GEDsà often lack other key data sources colleges look at when determining college admissions. Unfortunately, a GED is often perceived as a shortcut. If your student has completed the requirements that you (or your stateââ¬â¢s homeschooling laws) have set for graduating high school, he or she has earned his diploma.à Your student will likely need aà high school transcript. This transcript should include basic information about your student (name, address, and date of birth), along with a list of courses he has taken and a letter grade for each, anà overall GPA, and a grading scale. You may also want to keep a separate document with course descriptions in case it is requested. This document should list the name of the course, the materials used to complete it (textbooks, websites, online courses, or hands-on experience), the concepts mastered, and the hours completed in the subject. As homeschooling continues to grow, colleges, universities, the military, and employers are becoming increasingly accustomed to seeing parent-issued homeschool diplomas and accepting them as they would a degree from any other school.

A Beautiful Thing essays
A Beautiful Thing essays Amy Williams Dr.Yow Essay 2 A Beautiful Thing Lucy Grealy, in her essay Mirrors, gives an awesome portrayal of how our external being, as seen by others, shapes and influences our own feelings of inner worth. The author breaks down the true definition of individuality, pointing out that individualism is really nothing more than the way society perceives us. For example, when Lucy was young, her family and doctors rewarded her good behavior (i.e. silence) during chemotherapy by exclaiming, What a brave little girl. Unfortunately, this type of praise installed a false and unhealthy sense of self in Lucy. She became attached to this courageous, stalwart disposition, feeling that her reticence contributed to the approval, attention, and acceptance she received from others. Grealy states, ...if I broke down, this would be seen as despicable in the eyes of both my parents and doctors. I got tired of being brave, every week I told myself not to cry and every week I failed (50). The author f elt that by shedding tears, she had somehow failed to cooperate effectively, leaving disappointment in the heart of her most sought after audience, her parents. Like so many of us experience today, L. Grealy linked her broken life and lack of self-confidence to her outward, flawed appearance. To illustrate, she writes: I didnt feel I could pass up yet another chance to fix my face, which I confusedly thought concurrent with fixing myself, my soul, my life (49). In most cases, it is not necessarily our own face that humans most desire to change, but similarly, we mistakenly long for modification from the outside inward rather than the inside outward. We struggle with self-acceptance, and ascribe our inadequacy to external blemishes, an outside force, Amy Williams Dr.Yow Essay 2 which denies the possibility for self-assertion and growth. As individua ...

The Presidential Powers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
The Presidential Powers - Essay Example Presidents can get the congressional support by building up public support for their policies. Thus, the presidential powers are limited and it can be argued that the constitutional powers given to the president are the weakest. The actual constitutional powers given to the president can be limited and different from those given to the Congress. It can not be said that the president is ââ¬Ëtoo powerfulââ¬â¢ or more powerful than the Congress. Under the constitution, the presidential powers are limited to institutional and political. The president serves as the chief executive which is the head of the executive branch according to the constitution. This implies the presidential powers as being the chief administrative officer within the division of labor in the executive branch. The president also serves as the Commander-In-chief of the armed forces but in limited powers and as the financial manager of the federal budget approver (Ginsberg 309). The president holds the responsib ility to manage the National Budget but ultimately Congress has to approve it. Furthermore, the president has the authority to sign the bills into laws and has the power to veto them, but again the Congress has the powers to over-ride his veto. The Congress must also approve the decisions made by the president to assign judges to the Supreme Court and other high positions like Foreign Ambassador. The president has a role on the law enforcement on the condition that he takes care of the law being executed fairly. But over the years, the Congress has also been involved in the law enforcement duties and the presidential powers have turned out to be in rough proportion to the responsibilities and power of the national government. The formal powers of the president include many significant leadership roles that can be majorly divided into two authorities: domestic policy and foreign affairs. In the domestic arena, the president has the powers as the chief executive and the authority to o versee the execution and the implementation of the law. The president can also influence the legislative and judicial branches significantly. Thus, through these powers, the president can form a long-lasting influence on the nationââ¬â¢s domestic policies. Moreover, the constitution gives the Congress and the president different responsibilities for the war. The president is allowed to wage wars as commander in chief whereas Congress has the power to declare wars and fund them.Ã

Since there is only one value, it also serves as the quarterly seasonal index. The seasonal factor is computed as the geometric mean of the quarterly indices. The values are shown in the following table. 7. a. Simple random sampling

Real world business issues - Assignment Example It is vital for business manager to anticipate and identify them so that they can be exploited as new opportunities of growth. Thus, business managers are important linkages that integrate external opportunities and organizational growth by identifying themes and concerns for the benefit of the organizations. The paper would be discussing four major themes that have emerged as critical external factors which considerably influence the productive outcome of the firms and help it to maintain market leverage. The characteristics of emerging external and unstructured issues are essential paradigms that need to be identified and evaluated for evolving effective strategies so that issues can be resolved early and turn impending failure into stepping-stones of success. The tangible and intangible elements of external environment often create hassles that adversely impact organizational growth. They become major contributor for its deteriorating performance. Slater and Narver (1995) believe that firms which constantly make efforts to acquire, process, and circulate information across the organization about markets, products, technologies, and business processes etc., tend to succeed in anticipating changes and meeting them with creative and flexible approach. Consequently, managerial leadership of business managers become key enabling element that helps firms to maintain its leverage in the market against all odds. The following four themes are critical factors that influence organizational p erformance. Globalization has emerged as one of the most important external issues that has long term cascading impact on the organizational processes and performance. Globalization can be broadly defined as ââ¬Ëthe diffusion of goods, services, capital, technology, and people (workers) across national bordersââ¬â¢ (Sirgy et al., 2004: 253). E- Commerce and E-Payment Systems According to Khosrow-Pour (2008), e-commerce sites help users to buy and sell products and merchandises through online platform and internet communication. When product purchase and sell is being done online then it would be unfeasible to connect manual cash payment with the virtual system due to three reasons, 1- lack of synchronization between manual and online system, 2- lack of symmetry in the information processing and 3- synchronization might decrease the speed of processing (Khosrow-Pour, 2008). H ence, it can be said that absence of e-payment system might create problem for users of the system to pay cash in the virtual environment of e-commerce. Heng (2004) reported that before the arrival of e-payment system, e-commerce companies introduced various e-cash systems such as ââ¬Å"Millicentâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Digicashâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"PayBoxâ⬠etc as the predecessor of e-payment system but this earlier version of e-payment systems failed to provide the security and efficiency of transactions. Due to such inefficiency of previous e-payment system, customers shifted to online transaction via credit/debit cards payment or cash payment. According to Abrazhevich (2004), consumers also check for the security settings in the e-payment system and often stop using the e-payment system if the service vendor has

How Title IX has Affected Public Policies in the U.S Research Paper
How Title IX has Affected Public Policies in the U.S - Research Paper Example Membership in womenââ¬â¢s athletics has grown due to numerous factors. The leading cause is the far-reaching transformation in societyââ¬â¢s treatment of and outlooks toward women, as well as a new awareness of women of their own athletic abilities and involvement (Mezey & Gluck 2003). Basically, the boost in membership of women in athletic programs and the increase in public policies addressing sex discrimination in education institutions began since the inception of Title IX. History of Title IX The Congress in 1972 endorsed Title IX of the Educational Amendments. Since 1972, the development toward sex equity in school athletic programs has been notable, although not without its problems, limitations, and flaws. Although the first guideline about the execution of Title IX was not made public until 1975 and colleges and high schools were granted until 1978 to meet the terms, its enactment conveyed a direct notice to athletic courses all over the nation (Carpenter & Acosta 2005 ). The law at this time clearly declared that women cannot be singled out or unfairly treated in any school activity or program where the school obtained federal support. Soon after, participation of women in athletic programs skyrocketed (Zimbalist 1999, 58): In 1971, 294,015 girls participated in high school sports; that number increased 2.8 times to 817,073 in 1973, and to 2.08 million in 1978. At the college level, 31,852 took part in varsity sports in 1971, and by 1977 the number had more than doubled to 64,375. Nevertheless, this initial thrust was not maintained as incompetent implementation machinery and legal barriers weakened the prospects of Title IX. The Office of Civil Rights (OCR) of the U.S. Department of Education, the department assigned to address sex... How Title IX has Affected Public Policies in the U.S.? Title IX has indeed changed public policy in the United States. Thus, this essay discusses how Title IX has influenced American public policy. The existence of legal alternatives resulted in a heightened dependence on the legal institution to resolve the issue of sex discrimination. Women filed cases against unfair treatment and they were frequently victorious in their lawsuits. Yet, all over the mid-1980s, a series of problems overwhelmed the womenââ¬â¢s movement (Blumenthal 2005). The unsuccessful ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment and constraints inflicted on the implementation of Title IX by the Grove City Collegeââ¬âthe school that declined to recognize a Title IX agreement form-- resolution of the Supreme Court brought the condition at a deadlock all over this period (Zimbalist 1999). Title IX has considerably enhanced employment and educational prospects for women. However, assessing the benefits and inequalities confirms that Title IX should be reinforced and implemented. The Office of Civil Rights should be aggressive and oblige schools to release information that shows how they have supported Title IX provisions. But, most importantly, public policy in the United States has been informed of the entire scope of Title IX safeguard, the benefits that women have gained consequently, and the problems that still exist. The effect of Title IX on civil rights policy and on the larger policy process cannot be miscalculated.

It should be noted that once slaves had been recruited by their masters, there was no definite time they would be freed. This means that they were certain of staying in their slavery in their entire lives. However, from the beginning of 1500s, slaves started looking for ways of forming their own free society. It was during this time that the Maroon society came into existence. In this paper, an in-depth outlook on the Maroon society of Brazil will be considered. The considerations will involve a detailed outlook of literature review dealing with the foundation of the community while looking at the political, religious and military aspects of the community. The term Maroon, also Quilombo is used to denote a group of Runways slaves in American. As a result, the runway slaves later came to form a society that is referred to as Maroon. The formation of the Maroon society is an important feature in the history of the world because the society enables the contemporary world to grasp the history of slave trade that begun towards the end of 1400 and ended in 1888. The term Maroon is derived from Spanish word ââ¬Ëcimarronââ¬â¢ meaning feral cattle. The term was later used on runaway slaves because they were slaves that could no longer be tamed. The societies of Maroon were common in Brazil and Caribbean. The North America and other parts of South America were occupied by the Maroon. The Maroon society posed a serous threat to the organization of slave trade and also to slave owners. Their presence and organization meant that it would not be easy to have slaves for their usual purposes or for trading functions. On the other hand, the maroon society was a relief to slaves. It marked a sign of relief, hope and emancipation from their slavery. Currently, the Maroon community is not known by the term Quilombo. Instead, the community is currently termed as Mocambos. First law of motion Essay Example for Free
First law of motion Essay I have come to a point in life that many people have not. I have made a firm decision to recommit myself to pursuing my dreams. While there are those who believe that with an ounce of luck and a ton of persistence anything can be accomplished, I believe that there is no reason to expend so much energy and rely on luck. I believe in taking hold of my destiny and carving out a future for myself based on the decisions that I make in life. Life is simply too short and too precious to be left to luck alone. This is why I have chosen to apply at (Selected University Here). An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. This is how the first law of Newton is often stated. An object remains at rest unless an external influence interacts with it and either gets it moving again or alters its direction. I prefer to think of myself as one of those objects that are at rest. There has never really been any motivation or desire on my part to try and do something drastic in my life. The problems of other people do not concern me unless there is some sort of benefit that I can gain through my actions or disadvantage that will happen through my inaction. This has always been my way of dealing with things when I was much younger and admittedly more selfish and naive. As every story concerning a spoiled child goes, I always felt that I was the center of everyoneââ¬â¢s attention. I was the most important thing in this world. There was no need for me to raise a finger to do anything as everyone around me was at my beck and call, servants who catered to my every whim and desire. These thoughts of greatness and power however were also the same thoughts that made it very difficult for me to adapt to my school environment as I constantly found myself alone in school with no friends and nobody to talk to. Things took a turn for the worse before they got any better however as I was also performing terribly in school. I would get into scuffles with my classmates and get on the bad side of everyone in my school. These were very difficult times for me because I could not understand why these people had such an intense dislike for me. The worst part was yet to come however. One day when I was one my way to my classroom I saw a couple of my classmates breaking into the lockers of a few of the students. Unsure of what I was supposed to do I decided to watch them. A few moments later a young kid, much smaller and younger than me, told these bigger kids to stop what they were doing because it was bad. These bullies merely laughed at the kid and decided to have some fun with him and push him around. Forgetting how much bigger they were than the young child, they became too rough and pushed the child so hard that he rolled down the stairwell. Instead of helping the young kid out I decided to make a run for it and not say anything to anyone. It wasnââ¬â¢t my problem, I recall telling myself. Indeed it wasnââ¬â¢t but soon enough it became a problem of mine when I learned a week later that the young boy who I refused to defend would never be able to walk again. My inaction, my selfishness was the reason that a young boy would never be able to walk again. I could not live with myself. It was then that I decided to approach my mother and ask her why things were that way. Like every mother, my mom adored me and always had my best interests in her heart. But I was surprised when she told me the truth; I was selfish, arrogant and self centered. A person destined for greatness must learn to be humble and must also learn to stand up in the face of adversity. She then told me a story a great person, a person she admired, former President Ronald Reagan. While not exactly the most intelligent of all people, Ronald Reagan endured many trials in his life and was able to weather them all thus earning himself the nickname ââ¬Å"The Teflon Presidentâ⬠. Not only was Ronald Reagan able to endure all of his challenges, he was also well loved by many, which is largely attributed to his persuasive quotable speaking style. The Great Communicator was able to charm the hearts of many and in doing so became one of the most effective Presidents in the history of the United States. After that talk, I decided to learn more about this person who my mother thought so highly of and found that he had done so many things during his administration. I could not understand how a person who wielded such power never chose to abuse it but instead chose to use the power to help other people and improve the welfare of every American; Powerful and influential but at the same time well-loved by the American public. From that forth I resolved to discard my selfish and self-centered ways and decided to focus more on helping other people and becoming more altruistic in my deeds. While I certainly will not become the next Ronald Reagan, I have him to thank for motivating me to become a better person not only for myself but for others as well. He has inspired me to lead a life of service for the public and fueled my passion for politics. I may not be able to accomplish the things that this great person has done in his lifetime but I will be happy knowing that I have made a difference in this world. To have even inspired a single person to do good things and to devote his life to a life of service for others as Ronald Reagan has done for me will be a great accomplishment. While I personally believe that ââ¬Å"there is no such thing as a free lunchâ⬠and that everything a person has in life must come from hard work and perseverance, I also believe in charity. I believe in helping others who do not have much in life. I believe in helping people regardless of their nation, race or creed. I believe in being a better person so I can best help myself and others around me. I believe that (Selected University) is the best place for me to turn these beliefs into realities.

Systematisation of Catalogue Integration
Systematisation of Catalogue Integration ABSTRACT: Catalogue integration is a very essential and difficult job which needs to be carried out by various commercial portals and commerce search engines to built and consolidate the products gathered from various data providers. In this paper we discuss about an automated mechanism for integrating products from various providers and thus the process is considered from both the views of portal catalogue and the vendor providing catalogue. This commercial portal has its own taxonomy for all the products which is named as the master taxonomy and the data provider organizes its products in a different taxonomy called as the taxonomy provider. This methodology is based on the taxonomy-aware processing step that adjusts the results of a text based classification so that the products that are similar to the providerââ¬â¢s catalogue will appear closer in the master catalogue. To the best of our knowledge , this is the first unique approach that uses structure of taxonomies in order to upgrade the catalogue integration. Theà proposed algorithm is scalable and can be applied to large data-sets in web. The algorithm is implemented on real- world data and has greater accuracy as it takes into account that the relationships between the product categories. INTRODUCTION: The internet is no longer an academic and research oriented network but it is an open book with endless commercial opportunities. Online shopping has increased in recent times. These shopping websites have separate portals which can manage the sellers of the site where products arrive from multiple sellers. This includes e-commerce search engines such as Flipkart,Amazon , Sanpdeal and many common commercial search engines such as google product search and Bing shopping. Each seller will have a separate catalogue for the product available. Internet marketplace are now faced with new challenges that arises from the need to shamelessly integrate enormous number of product catalogue from different sources. Product categorization is the main task that needs to be carried out in here. Hence, we need some mechanism which combines both the approaches, provides accurate classification of products and also scalable to large volume of dataset that is typical on the web. EXISTING SYSTEM: In the existing system there is a difficulty for the customer or the provider to update the details of a product. The ecommerce website has a master catalogue according to which the provider has to upload his/her catalogue of a product. If this catalogue does not match with the master catalogue, then the product will not be accepted by the e-commerce website. This will create a problem for the providers who are un aware of the master catalogue. Not all the providers are aware of these technological details and restrictions. The existing system has imposed more restrictions for the upload of products, which can create a backlog in the business of that shopping website. PROBLEM DEFINITION: Given a source catalogue Ks=(Ps, S,s) that corresponds to some providerââ¬â¢s catalogue defined over the source taxonomy S=(Cs, Es), and a target (or master) catalogue taxonomy Kt = (Pt,T, t) that corresponds to the catalogue of the commercial portal defined over the target (master) taxonomy T = (Ct, Et). The goal is to learn a cross-catalogue labelling function function l: Ps -> Ct that maps products of the source catalogue to the categories of the target catalogue taxonomy. PROJECT SCOPE: Here it makes use of provider taxonomy information to categorize products coming from data providers to the master taxonomy. This approach is based on taxonomy-aware processing step that adjusts the results of a text-based classifier so that the products that are in near-by categories in the provider taxonomy will be assigned near-by categories in the master taxonomy. TACI is scalable to large volume of datasets and it has linear running time with respect to number of input products. It exploits the full structure of the taxonomy, defining relationships between items that belong to different categories, based on the relationship of the categories in the taxonomy tree. TACI provides accurate results when compared other existing approaches SYSTEM DESIGN: This chapter describes the features and modular design of the proposed algorithm. Unlike existing approaches the proposed algorithm explores the entire taxonomy of the provider and master catalogs to find out a classification of products from providers catalog in master taxonomy. The formulation of the taxonomy-aware catalog integration problem is based on structured prediction problem. The optimized classification of products is achieved by designing the algorithm using metric labelling approach. Thus the proposed algorithm involves calculating two measures: Cost indicating assignment of products to categories Cost indicating strength of relationships among product categories Since the existing approaches considered categories as flat collection of classes, pair-wise relationships are considered and hence suffered scalability issues. The proposed algorithm exploits the taxonomy structure to find out the relationship among the categories and uses them to prune the search space thus making the algorithm scalable. Thus the algorithm has linear running time with respect to the input data and is applicable to larger datasets. FUNCTIONAL STEPS: The Taxonomy Aware Catalog Integration is a 2 step process. Base Classification Step: This step does not consider taxonomy structure and utilizes general text classifier. Finds Assignment Cost. Taxonomy-Aware Processing Step: This step involves exploiting the taxonomy structure of both source and target catalogs. Finds Separation Cost. MODULAR DESIGN: PSEUDO CODE: Input: Source catalog Ks, Target taxonomy T, base classifier b, and parameters à ¯Ã à ±,k, and à ³ Output: A labeling vector à ¢Ã¢â¬Å¾Ã¢â¬Å" Fs for all x Ãââ⬠Ps do Ãâ*Ãâ Ãââ⬠Ct PÃâb[Ãâ|x] if PÃâb[Ãâ*|x] >= à ¯Ã à ± then à ¢Ã¢â¬Å¾Ã¢â¬Å"x Fà ¯Ã à ±Ã ¯Ã à ± U {x} else Oà ¯Ã à ± à ¯Ã à ± U {x} Compute TOPk{x} Compute candidate pairs H à ¯Ã à ±,k Initialize hash table à ¨ to empty for all (ÃÆ', Ãâ) â⠬ H à ¯Ã à ±,k do à ¨[(ÃÆ', Ãâ)]=h (ÃÆ', Ãâ) for all x Ãââ⬠O à ¯Ã à ± do à ¢Ã¢â¬Å¾Ã¢â¬Å"x Ãâ Ãââ⬠TOP k ( x ) { (1- à ³) A COST(x,Ãâ)+ à ³ à ¨[ (sx, Ãâ)] } BASE CLASSIFICATION STEPS This step does not consider the structure of both provider and master taxonomies. It uses Naive Bayes text classification result and à ¯Ã à ± value to distinguish between fixed and open products. The fixed products are the set of products in the provider catalog with probability of categories greater than the threshold value and thus, Naive Bayes result is taken as the correct category. TAXONOMY AWARE PROCESSING STEP This step involves exploiting the taxonomy structure to find out the relationships among the categories. This needs to find the similarity measure between two categories in both source and target taxonomies. Pair of products (x,y) assigned to category pair having greater similarity measure in provider taxonomy should be assigned to category pair having greater similarity measure in master taxonomy which is ensured by the penalty function (à ´). Absolute difference gives the difference between similarity values obtained for a category pair in both source and target taxonomies. Thus this helps in finding out the cost of separating a pair of products which is given by the separation cost. CONCLUSION AND FUTURE WORKS: With the proliferation of data sharing applications that involve multiple data providers the development of automated techniques for catalog integration will be crucial to their success. In this paper, we presented an efficient and scalable automated approach to catalog integration that is based on the use of source category and taxonomy structure information. TACI is a pioneer to catalog integration which exploits the structure of taxonomies to enhance catalog integration with greater accuracy. Here, we have explained with product integration in shopping portals. However, this technique can also be applied to many other important domains which deploy the concept of multiple data sources which contains several categories to be integrated to a single place in a unique way. This includes important verticals such as Local, Travel, Entertainment, etc. This technique was carried out as a supervised learning technique. For future work, we would like to explore semisupervised learning techniques to incrementally retrain the base classifier with elements chosen during the taxonomy-aware calibration step.

Wireless LAN :: Internet Technology Computers Essays
Wireless LAN discovery through the use of applications such as NetStumbler, DStumbler, Wellenreiter and others is an increasingly popular technique for network penetration. The discovery of a wireless LAN might be used for seemingly innocuous Internet access, or to be used as a "backdoor" into a network to stage an attack. This paper reviews some of the tactics used in wireless LAN network discovery and attempts to identify some of the fingerprints left by wireless LAN discovery applications, focusing on the MAC and LLC layers. This fingerprint information can then be incorporated into intrusion detection tools capable of analyzing data-link layer traffic. Introduction The growth of 802.11 networks has been met with the development of several wireless local area network (WLAN) discovery applications. These applications are designed to identify WLAN activity and network characteristics, providing enough information for an unauthorized user to gain access to the target network. For obvious reasons, WLAN administrators should be concerned about unauthorized access to their networks and therefore should attempt to identify the applications used to discover their networks. WLAN intrusion analysis is not entirely unlike traditional intrusion analysis; we are primarily concerned about the identification of traffic signatures or fingerprints that are unique to the applications we want to detect. Unlike traditional intrusion analysis however, we have additional challenges that are unique to wireless networks: 1. Location of trafic capture station Where traditional intrusion detection systems can be location in a functional area (DMZ, inside a firewall, outside a firewall, etc), a data collection agent (agent) capturing 802.11 frames must be installed in the same service area of each wireless LAN we wish to monitor. The improper location of a wireless LAN agent will inevitably lead to false positive results. If the receive sensitivity of the agent exceeds that of the monitored network, traffic may be characterized as WLAN discovery while being outside the cell range of the monitored network. Another interesting challenge is monitoring "hidden node" IBSS stations where the last wireless station to generate a beacon is responsible to reply to probe requests (ANSI/IEEE, 126). In these cases, the wireless LAN agent may not be within the coverage area necessary to collect responses or further solicitation of management information from the responding ââ¬Å"hidden nodeâ⬠station. 2. Identifying anomalous trafic In order for wireless clients to locate a network to join, the IEEE 802.11 specification made an accommodation for clients to broadcast requests for available networks.

Facts On Cocaine Essay -- essays research papers
Cocaine is a powerful central nervous system (CNS) stimulant that heightens alertness, inhibits appetite and the need for sleep, and provides intense feelings of pleasure. It is prepared from the leaf of the Erythroxylon coca bush, which grows primarily in Peru and Bolivia. Street dealers dilute it with inert (non-psychoactive) but similar-looking substances such as cornstarch, talcum powder, and sugar, or with active drugs such as procaine and benzocaine (used as local anesthetics), or other CNS stimulants such as amphetamines. Nevertheless, illicit cocaine has actually become purer over the years; according to RCMP figures, in 1988 its purity averaged about 75%. With repeated administration over time, users experience the drug's long-term effects. Euphoria is gradually displaced by restlessness, extreme excitability, insomnia, and paranoia - and eventually hallucinations and delusions. These conditions, clinically identical to amphetamine psychosis and very similar to paranoid schizophrenia, disappear rapidly in most cases after cocaine use is ended. Tolerance to any drug exists when higher doses are necessary to achieve the same effects once reached with lower doses. But scientists have not observed tolerance to cocaine's stimulant effect: users may keep taking the original amount over extended periods and still experience the same euphoria. Physical effects of cocaine use include constricted peripheral blood vessels, dilated pupils, and increased temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. The duration of cocaine's immediate euphoric effects, which include hyperstimulation, reduced fatigue, and mental clarity, depends on the route of administration. The faster the absorption, the more intense the high. On the other hand, the faster the absorption, the shorter the duration of action. The high from snorting may last 15 to 30 minutes, while that from smoking may last 5 to 10 minutes. Increased use can reduce the period of stimulation. When people mix cocaine and alcohol consumption, they are compounding the danger each drug poses and unknowingly forming a complex chemical experiment within their bodies. NIDA-funded researchers have found that the human liver combines cocaine and alcohol and manufactures a third substance, cocaethylene, that intensifies cocaine's euphoric effects, while possibly increasing the risk of sudden death. Yes. Cocaine is of... ... the "Brompton cocktail". This was a judiciously-blended mixture of cocaine, heroin and alcohol. The results were gratifying not just to the recipient. Relatives of the stricken patient were pleased, too, at the new-found look of spiritual peace and happiness suffusing the features of a loved one as (s)he prepared to meet his or her Maker. Drawing life to a close with a transcendentally orgasmic bang, and not a pathetic and god-forsaken whimper, can turn dying into the culmination of one's existence rather than its present messy and protracted anti-climax. There is another good reason to finish life on a high note. In a predominantly secular society, adopting a hedonistic death-style is much more responsible from an ethical utilitarian perspective. For it promises to spare friends and relations the miseries of vicarious suffering and distress they are liable to undergo at present as they witness one's decline. A few generations hence, the elimination of primitive evolutionary holdovers such as the ageing process and suffering will make the hedonistic death advocated here redundant. In the meanwhile, one is conceived in pleasure and may reasonably hope to die in it.

Attitudes Young Adults Binge Drinking Health And Social Care Essay
Binge imbibing has been identified as a common activity among Australian young person. This study is a survey, researching the motivational and attitudinal factors underlying orgy imbibing among Australian young person. The methodological analysis used was in the signifier of questionnaires which was completed by group of 28 immature people aged between 16 to 25 old ages. The questionnaire focused on their imbibing behaviour, their beliefs and attitudes towards orgy imbibing. The present survey found that orgy imbibing was more common in immature males than in females of the same age group. Social environment encouraged orgy imbibing in most immature people who are under the age of 18 old ages ( under-age ) .The survey besides showed strong correlativity between hebdomadal ingestion of intoxicant with heavy imbibing Sessionss. There is a high prevalence of orgy imbibing rates among people aged between 16-25 old ages and it is quickly increasing[ 1 ]. However, the chief intent of this study is to measure and analyze the informations obtained from the questionnaire that designed to obtain an in deepness thought about the attitudes towards orgy imbibing. Moore et Al. ( 1994 ) found that about a 3rd of immature people aged 18-24 and over a one-fourth pupils in full-time instruction engaged in orgy imbibing at least one time a hebdomad[ 2 ]. Binge imbibing can be defined as devouring half the recommended hebdomadal ingestion of intoxicant in a individual session[ 3 ]. The term ââ¬Å" orgy imbibing â⬠can hold different significances, but by and large it refers to imbibing to a great extent over a short period of clip with the purpose of going to a great extent intoxicated. The major restriction of this study is that it being a little survey and the informations collected from a group of young person who belong to same suburb and have the same equal group. However, it is non possible at this phase toA province what consequence thisA limitationA may hold on the generalizability of the findings of theA researchA survey. Problem designation: In recent old ages, wellness publicity runs have highlighted the negative wellness and societal effects and orgy imbibing and have advocated moderate intoxicant ingestion. However, despite this, the cognition of the hazards of orgy imbibing has non translated into a decrease in orgy imbibing behavior by immature people. Binge imbibing has started to be seen as socially acceptable, big due to media representations of imbibing as ââ¬Ëcool ââ¬Ë and the preponderance of famous persons showed on bibulous orgies. Lending to the societal credence of utmost imbibing is the usage of cyberspace based societal networking sites used to portion images of bibulous darks out[ 4 ] It is a good known fact that high ingestion of intoxicant consequences in a scope of inauspicious effects, including high blood force per unit area ( Shaper et Al, 1981 ) , bosom disease ( Sherlock,1982 ) and cirrhosis of the liver ( Colliver and Malin, 1986 ) . While many of the inauspicious effects of high intoxicant ingestion are due to go on heavy imbibing ( e.g. cirrhosis of the liver, bosom disease, etc. ) , others are more specifically related to inordinate intoxicant ingestion in a individual imbibing session ( e.g. insecure sex, force, etc ) 2. Harmonizing to the NHMRC, one Australian adolescent dies and 60 are hospitalized each hebdomad from alcohol-related causes. Drug info uncluttering house of the Australian drug foundation indicates some of the injuries ensuing from orgy imbibing: Short term injuries Long term injuries Can be those that are instantly harmful to wellness such as katzenjammer, sickness, shaking and perchance purging and memory loss Other jobs can be caused by the manner intoxicant makes you behave. These include the hazard of falls, assaults, auto accidents, unplanned gestation, shame and embarrassment about your behaviour, loss of valuable points and fiscal losingss through foolhardy disbursement while intoxicated, or loss of income through clip off work. can include going physically or psychologically dependent upon intoxicant, and developing liver or encephalon harm hazard of malignant neoplastic disease of the oral cavity, pharynx or gorge Literature reappraisal: Analyzing the attitudes towards orgy imbibing among immature people was chosen as the research subject to measure and analyze as it addresses a figure of the standards for finding precedences including, incidence, badness, community support and community resources. Harmonizing to a study prepared by the National Drug Research Institute and the Centre for Adolescent Health, one in 10 immature people drink to harmful degrees in Australia. Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics ââ¬Ë ( ABS ) 3 National Health Survey 2004-05 showed males ( 68 % ) were more likely than females ( 58 % ) to describe orgy imbibing in the past 12 months with 14 per cent ( 265,000 ) of the immature people surveyed consumed intoxicant at hazardous or bad degrees in the hebdomad prior to the study ( 15 % of males, 13 % of females ) ( Figure 1 )[ 5 ]. Figure 1: Percentage of young person aged 18-24 old ages devouring intoxicant at hazardous or bad degrees 1995-2005 In the 2007 National Drug Strategy Household Survey, 19 % of immature work forces aged 18-24 old ages reported that they had engaged in risky/high hazard imbibing at least one time a hebdomad during the last 12 months. Between 1991 and 2007, for Australians aged 14 old ages or older, intoxicant ingestion forms remained mostly unchanged. Around 41 % of 14 twelvemonth olds consumed alcohol hebdomadally in 1991 and it remained about the same until 2007-08[ 6 ]. A survey published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health that 20 per centum of 16 to 17 old ages olds surveyed of them engaged in hebdomadal hazardous individual juncture imbibing ; and, that those who accessed intoxicant from beginnings in add-on to their parents were more than twice as likely to be involved in hazardous individual juncture imbibing. This survey concluded that striplings reported increased alcohol-related job behaviour when they obtained intoxicant from beginnings other than their parents. This survey besides concluded that parents need to be equipped with schemes for pull offing intoxicant supply to their adolescent boies or girls[ 7 ]. In recent old ages, wellness publicity runs have highlighted the negative wellness and societal effects and orgy imbibing and have advocated moderate intoxicant ingestion. However, despite this, the cognition of the hazards of orgy imbibing has non translated into a decrease in orgy imbibing behavior by immature people[ 8 ]. Paul Norman, Paul Bennett and Helen Lewis in their research study Understanding orgy imbibing among immature people: an application of the Theory of Planned Behaviour quoted that, ââ¬Å" Frequent orgy drinkers were less likely to believe that the determination to prosecute in orgy imbibing was under their control and more likely to mention a scope of factors which may do orgy imbibing more likely to happen, therefore recognizing a figure of external influences on their imbibing behaviouraÃâ à ¦.2 â⬠Methodology: The methodological analysis used for the research was questionnaire. Each questionnaire consisted of 18 inquiries that were distributed among 28 respondents accompanied with a cover missive. Samples of respondents aged between 16 to 25 old ages were approached and were asked to finish the questionnaire. Potential respondents were approached personally asked to finish a questionnaire on attitudes towards intoxicant. Respondents either completed the questionnaire straight off or took the questionnaire off to finish in their ain clip and return it. The sample consisted of 15 males and 13 females. The cover missive of the questionnaire gave a brief description of what constituted a ââ¬Ëbinge ââ¬Ë imbibing session. The information obtained was analysed and quantitative informations obtained was illustrated utilizing graphs. Findingss: All of the 28 respondents have had consumed intoxicant at least one time in a month. More than half of the respondents ( 56 % ) engaged themselves in orgy imbibing activity. Furthermore, around 73 % of the immature work forces were binge drinkers while merely 27 % of females engaged themselves in orgy imbibing activity.Fig1b: Pie chart demoing the per centum of males and females engaged in orgy imbibingFig 1a: Pie chart demoing the per centum of respondents engaged in orgy imbibingThe per centum of immature work forces who consumed intoxicant on hebdomadal footing was relatively high at 73 % while merely 17 % drank intoxicant on a day-to-day footing. In contrast, none of the female respondents drank intoxicant on a day-to-day footing while 53 % of them drank alcohol hebdomadal footing.Fig 2: Bar graph demoing the per centum of male and female respondents who drink intoxicants on day-to-day, hebdomadal and monthly footing and those who ne'er drink intoxicantAround 50 % of the responde nt indicated that equal groups were the beginning of obtaining intoxicant for under-age young person while 27 % of them indicated that fake Id ââ¬Ës were used by under-age young person to obtain intoxicant. Further, the responses from the participants aged above 18years and below 18 old ages were examined and interpreted. About 76 % of respondents below 18 old ages old pointed out that orgy imbibing was a normal wont that was needed for socializing while merely 7 % of respondents above 18 old ages olds agreed with this point. None of the respondents agreed that they engaged themselves in heavy imbibing session for the intent of constructing ego assurance. When asked for grounds that drive under-age young person to imbibe intoxicant on a regular footing Some of the respondents quoted that, ââ¬Å" They ( immature people ) believe that it is a cool thing, a tendency to follow and take up from their seniors. Make it a wont for socialising i.e. , without intoxicant there is no subject for conversation â⬠ââ¬Å" For bang, merriment, exhilaration and of class out of curiosityaÃâ à ¦ â⬠When asked what was the necessary action to be taken to cut down the degrees of orgy imbibing in under-age young person Some of the respondents quoted that, ââ¬Å" Excess curricular activities such as encampment, athleticss activity, and gym can direct childs into the right way. Advisory cantonments can besides advance a healthy life style â⬠ââ¬Å" A batch of freedom is given to childs from their parents as the authorities is endorsing them up, due to which they get assurance T drink to a great extent and therefore stop up harming themselves. So, enforce rigorous restrictionsaÃâ à ¦ â⬠Discussion: The survey explores the attitudes and motivational factors underlying orgy imbibing among immature people in Australia. Binge imbibing was found to be a common activity with 56 % of the sample prosecuting in orgy imbibing largely on a hebdomadal footing. However, this figure is somewhat lower than that obtained by the National Health Survey 2004-05. The survey besides reflected that there was a strong correlativity between hebdomadal ingestion of intoxicant and orgy imbibing. Male respondents engaged in orgy imbibing more frequently than female respondents, with 63 % of the male respondents prosecuting in orgy imbibing and 27 % of the female respondents. Majority of the male participants drank for the ground of socialization and were more likely to devour intoxicant while been pressurized by their friends or imbibing couples. In add-on, there are more and more factors that encourage orgy imbibing such as observing an event, locales such as nearby saloon or nines that offer alcoholic drinks for price reduction. In comparing, there fewer factors which may move to suppress binge imbibing. Therefore, for most of the male respondents binge imbibing is a societal behavior. These findings of the present are consistent with survey done by white avens and Smith who found that for work forces, unit of ammunition purchasing and being in company of male friends were some of the exacerbating factors that lead to heavy imbibing Sessionss. It is hypothesized that orgy imbibing is chiefly a societal behavior which is facilitated by a societal environment both in footings of state of affairss that encourage heavy imbibing and equal force per unit area. This hypothesis was supported as 76 % of respondents below 18 old ages old indicated that orgy imbibing was a normal wont that was needed for socializing. The present research consequences have a figure of deductions for efforts to cut down the incidence of orgy imbibing among immature people. Media can be besides used as tool to educate and modify young person about safe imbibing wonts. Resuscitating the societal environment where immature people exhausted bulk of their free clip will besides take to safer imbibing behaviour Decision: In decision, this survey has attempted to place the attitudes and analyze the factors that aggravate binge imbibing among immature grownups aged between 16 to 25 old ages. The survey has concluded that more than half of the sample population engaged themselves in orgy imbibing and this tendency is largely common in males than females on a hebdomadal footing. However, peer force per unit area and societal environment that encourage imbibing has been identified as two factors that drives immature people to imbibe alcohol to a great extent. It has been identified that stairss are needed to alter immature people ââ¬Ës societal environment so that less accent is put on intoxicant in order to cut down the incidence of orgy imbibing. Harm minimising techniques such increasing consciousness about the wellness jeopardies of devouring intoxicant more than the recommended sum, altering the environment of the local saloon and installations to promote other activities other than imbibing.
